Granted, nearly every movie based on a video game has been terrible, and that includes at least a few of the resident Evil movies. But we are entering a new era in Hollywood; one where video games aren’t made into movies. They are transformed into TV shows. What could go wrong?
Okay, a lot of things could go wrong, but we’re still excited about a lot of these shows, including The last of us on HBO, Halo on Paramount+, and resident Evil on Netflix. The latter show has been in the works since at least the summer of 2020, when Netflix first announced the development of a live-action TV adaptation of the long-running horror game series. Today they revealed that their resident Evil will debut later this summer, and revealed the plot synopsis for the show:
Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker struggles for survival in a world overrun by infected and crazed bloodthirsty creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling ties to the Umbrella Corporation, but most importantly by what happened to her sister, Billie.
The showrunner for the series is Andrew Dabb, who previously worked on Supernaturaland the cast includes Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, one of the main villains of the resident Evil games, with Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Pola Nunez.
Netflix also showed off three posters for the show, all of which feature the classics. resident Evil trademarks: Blood, Umbrella Corporation and Science Experiments Gone Wrong.
resident Evil premieres on Netflix on July 14.
